There are two types; Blindfolded and Blinkered
Very difficult. These people have different goals and distrust science. They think climate science is a hoax. So they will not even start to think about solutions. Some believe the warming is a natural cycle, (it isn't, it's too soon for the "Milankovitch effect" .)
These folks are well meaning and there are a few scientists, many politicians, many people in this category who need to see a bigger picture.
The most common small picture is to do with CO2.
The arguments include:
CO2 is essential to plant life. TRUE.
Doubling the current global level ( about 440 ppm average ) will make little difference now. TRUE
CO2 has made about a 1 percent difference to the heat balance, TRUE
Science always needs more data, we must do more research. TRUE but....we must also ACT.
CO2 counter measures are having an effect TRUE but...too slowly.
The bigger picture has to include Methane, Albedo (ice and clouds) , Ocean warming and Ocean currents.
These form a chain of causes,
CO2 warming is releasing Methane.
CO2 will hang around in the atmosphere for decades.
Methane will take over the growing greenhouse effect as it rises out of control.
Ocean Warming is changing the sea ice and the cloud picture, reducing Albedo.
The warmer Oceans and ice melt change the Ocean circulation
The collapse of the AMOC circulation will change the climate towards an icy picture
A progression toward an ice age will be really disruptive and really hard to stop.
and that has happened many times before.
So the point is: CO2 is not the end of the story, we already have enough CO2 to start this chain.
And the point here is that we can change the Albedo deliberately and hope to stop this effect.
Changing the Albedo will be faster than removing CO2, CH4 and Ocean Heat
