2023 was officially the hottest year on record and now 2024 beat that by a wide margin.
1.5 C rise over the usual datum has been achieved, we should wake up!
climate records broken again. Every month sees the ocean surface temperature records broken - by a big margin even though elNino has ended. We have passed a tipping point indicated by the rising methane levels, (UnCH4rtered waters) Meanwhile the Albedo falls.
Albedo correction can offset the greenhouse effect, meaning we do not need to crash economies based on burning carbon!
The reflectance (albedo) of the Earth surface is different from the Greenhouse effect. The reflectance can be used to offset that. But, as the albedo declines year by year, the size of mirror (land, air and sea projects) will have to increase. We need about 1% change.
The first tipping point that we must avoid is the collapse of the Ocean Circulation, known as the AMOC. Maybe in 2057. Maybe sooner, climate scientists are surprised by the acceleration.
Critical consequences are mass migration, fishing decline, crop failures, heat domes, droughts and floods from rainfall changes.
This is a genuine carbon offset idea.
It just needs about 10 billion dollars per year for about ten years.
